Numeracy
In April Primary Seven learnt how to add and subtract decimals. We also solved word problems using decimals. We started an Algebra topic and learnt about formulas and number sequences. My favourite thing to do was adding and subtracting decimals.

World Around Us - The Famine
In April Primary Seven have been learning about the Irish famine. We have been learning about workhouses and evictions. In 1838 the workhouses were built in Ireland. This was before the famine started. During the famine when families entered the workhouse they would be split up into groups. The men’s work was breaking stones and the women’s work was knitting. They would work for up to ten hours.
If a family could not pay their rent, they were evicted from their home. The evictions would be very harsh. When the farmers and families couldn’t pay their rent, they would be thrown out of their houses along with some of their belongings. Some houses would be knocked or burnt down so that people could not return to them.

Literacy
In April we have been completing lots of different comprehensions and we have been learning about suffixes. A suffix is a group of letters that come at the end of a word.
Some examples of suffixes are full, less and ish. The word danger can become dangerous. We’ve also been learning how to do write using joint handwriting. We will be starting to write in pen soon.

Confirmation
Primary Seven had their confirmation this month. The children celebrated by having a party. We spoke about our confirmation day, ate lots of sweets and cake and danced all afternoon. Thank you to the Friends of Cullyhanna for a fun afternoon.
