February in Primary 4

28th Feb 2025

It may be the shortest month of the year, but February was certainly a very busy one in Primary 4.

At the beginning of the month we welcomed Miss Cumiskey to our class.  She will be with us for the next seven weeks and we have been learning some wonderful things with her, so far.

In numeracy we have been continuing our work on 3 digit numbers and our times tables, whilst also exploring symmetry, pyramids and prisms.

In literacy we have been working on making plurals and we have started to explore 'Fables, Myths and Legends'.  Miss Cumiskey told us the story of 'The Children of Lir' and we enjoyed creating interviews with the characters and reenacting scenes from it.  We also had a fantastic visit from Una Walsh, who told us all about local myths and legends, including Fionn MacCumhaill and Cu Chulainn.

In World Around Us our new topic is 'Birds' and Miss Cumiskey has been teaching us lots of interesting facts.  We  loved the activities where we explored the different features of a bird, especially getting to use different items as 'beaks' to pick up 'food'.

In art we have explored symmetrical drawing and are using our topic to create birds from clay with Diane.  We have completed the first step and are now waiting on our birds to dry so that we can paint them in the coming weeks.

We spent the month of February preparing for our First Confession, which we made on Thursday 27th.  It was a very special morning for our class and we got to celebrate it with Canon Toner and our family members.  We now look forward to our First Holy Communion in May.
