Numeracy
In Numeracy this month, we looked at mixed fractions and improper fractions and how to convert between them and equivalent fractions. We then moved on to look at decimals with tenths and using what we know on fractions, we converted between fractions and decimals. We became to look at rounding, comparing and ordering decimal numbers as well.
We then learned about kg and g and when we were able to do this, we moved on to ml and litres.

Literacy
In Literacy this month, we have been learning about homophones such as your and you’re, their, there and they’re. We looked at the different between them and when we should be using them in our writing. We got to look at legends in literacy this month such as King Arthur and Rama and Sita. We got to look at different versions of each story and then write our own version of it.
We looked at synonyms and how they are words that have a similar meaning, for example rich/wealthy, summit/top and we also looked at ways to use apostrophes to show possession.

WAU – Rainforests
In WAU, we started a new topic called Rainforests. We have looked at different places around the world that you can find rainforests such as Brazil and that you can find them close to the Equator. There are no seasons in rainforests, and we learned that they provide most of the Earth’s oxygen and sometimes they are called ‘The Lungs of the Earth’.
We looked at how rainforests have four layers and each layer provide shelter for different animals. The layers we learned about are the emergent layer, the canopy layer, the understory layer and the forest floor.

WAU – Climate Change
In our topic this month, we looked at hurricanes and tornadoes. We looked at the difference between them and learned that a hurricane is a huge rapidly rotating storm, and a tornado is a huge funnel of air that can rip trees from the ground and destroy houses.
We then moved on to look at world biomes like grasslands, deserts, tundra, artic, savannah and more. We looked at the map and found out we live in the deciduous forest biome.
