January in P6
Numeracy
This month in numeracy we started to learn division. We looked at linking our multiplication and division facts which then helped us when we had to dividing 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers with remainders.
We then began to look at measurements, converting our grams and kilograms. When doing this we learned how to convert kg and g using decimal points and fractions.

Literacy
This month we have been learning about lot of new things. We have learned about what similes and metaphors are and once we knew what they were we going to write an emotion poem using them. We looked at what a proverb is and how it links in with fables.
I loved when we got to write our own fable because we got to use our imagination and creativity. We planned out our own fable, using a proverb that we wanted, our own animal characters and personally this was my favourite part as I like to write freely.

WAU – Materials
This month in our topic of materials, we have been learning about solids, liquids an gases. Somethings that are solids are glue bottles, dart boards and a football. Somethings that are liquids are water, sprite, perfumes and more. Some gases that we are learning about are smoke from factories, helium, water vapour and more.
We then looked at permanent and temporary changes. One permanent change we looked at was when you put bread into a toaster and when it becomes toast we cant change it back. One temporary change we looked at was if you freeze water, it becomes ice which is a solid. Then if you melt it then it becomes a liquid again.

WAU – Climate Change
In the month of January, we started learning about Climate Change. We looked at how climate change affects the Earth by melting ice, increasing temperatures, how some places around the world are getting too much rain and others are not getting enough.
We looked at the difference between weather and climate. Weather is something that happens often and is only temporary and climate is something that has happen over a long period of time.
