March in Primary 6
March has been a great month for us in Primary 6.
We celebrated World Book Day by having a visit from local author Paula Reel. We enjoyed listening to her book, learning about her role as an author and completing activities relating to books. We also enjoyed browsing through the Book Fair and purchasing books of our choice.
To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day we made ‘Shamrock People’ and decorated our shamrocks. We learned a lot of interesting facts related to our Patron Saint. On 16th March we went to Mass for St. Patrick’s Day. We sang and said our responses in Irish.
In Numeracy we covered a range of topics-Area, Perimeter, Volume, Fractions. We enjoyed many practical lessons particularly going outside and to different places in the school to find the area and perimeter using a trundle wheel and metre stick.
As part of our topic on the Rainforest we looked at and recreated the painting by the famous artist Henri Rousseau called ‘Tiger in a Tropical Storm.’ It shows a tiger, illuminated by a flash of lightning, preparing to pounce on its prey in the middle of a raging storm. We enjoyed using many colours to make our pictures come to life.
We’ve been busy with after school activities including Art, Crocheting and Multi-Sports.
Finally we would like to thank Mr. Deery who has spent the last six weeks teaching us a range of lessons and topics. We wish him lots of luck with the rest of his teaching career.
