P7 December News
Numeracy
In numeracy we have been learning how to calculate speed, distance and time. We have also been learning about factors. For example, the factors of 8 are 2,4 and 1,8.
We have been learning about time. There are 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in a minute.
Negative numbers have been fun to learn about but they were also quite hard. We learnt how to solve equations using BODMAS. The order is brackets, orders, division, multiplication, adding and subtracting. Finally, we started to learn algebra. We learned how to solve sequences and formulas. My favourite thing was the Christmas play.

Mindfullness
Since the start of the year, we have been doing a mindfulness course. We learned lots of different breathing techniques to help us be mindful. Some of my favourite techniques to use are finger breathing and petal practise. It was very interesting to learn about what each part of the brain helps us to do. Did you know we can stop the amygdale from growing by doing mindfulness? The amygdale helps you to keep safe. It activates the flight, fright and freeze response to danger.

Medics in Primary School Programme
During the month of December Niamh, a medical student studying in Queen’s university, has been teaching us about the body. Firstly, we learnt about the digestive system. The large and the small intestine are very important parts of the digestive system. Niamh taught us the importance of eating healthy and food safety. She taught us how to wash out hands like a medical student to ensure out hands are free from germs.

Christmas show
In the moth of December P7 performed a play called Elferella. Here are some of our favourite parts.
In scene one Mae the Elf stopped the dancers from dancing with a strange announcement.
In scene two all the elves were making their toys and Ella the elf had a crocodile instead of a hippopotamus.
In scene three the kids were talking about what they wanted for Christmas, and they were decorating the tree with their family.
In scene four Santa and his elves were delivering toys and Elferella’s shoe fell off when the elves were getting into the sleigh.
In scene five the children woke up to find out they got presents from Santa. Ceala got a tractor, Odhran got a football, but Ella got an elf shoe. They decided to go on an Elf hunt.
In scene six the children went to Snowman Street. Ellen, James and Caitlín were funny snowmen who had to freeze when they saw the children. The children tickled the snowmen and they laughed.
In scene seven the children made their way to Santa’s workshop. There they found Jake the bodyguard. They couldn’t guess the password so the whole class sang a song together and then they were allowed in.
During the final scene the children saw Mrs Claus and some elves. The elves were shocked to see the children. All the elves tried on the shoe but it didn’t fit anyone. Santa and Mrs Claus found Elferella and the shoe fit her.
We enjoyed our Christmas show.
