Numeracy
In numeracy we have been learning about how to solve word problems using three different steps. We learnt how to find missing angles in different shapes. We know that the angles in a triangle all add up to 180 degrees and that a whole turn is 360 degrees. We learned about right angles, acute angles, obtuse angles and reflex angles. We learned different ways to multiply. We learned how to use partitioning and the expanded written method to multiply different numbers and to check our answers. We also learned how to multiply decimals using mental strategies.

World Around Us History
In history we are learning about The Great Irish Famine or in Irish An Gorta Mór. The Great Famine was a time of mass starvation, disease and immigration in Ireland during 1845 and 1852. Did you know that before the famine Ireland's population was around 8.5 million? The famine was when the potato crop was infected by a blight. The potatoes rotted and lots of crops were taken away by landlords or shipped off to different places. Before the famine the Irish people were poor but not gloomy. They lived in cottages, mud cabins and brick houses. Some of the houses had windows and some did not. At the weekend the Irish people would dance, sing and shop at the markets. I enjoy learning about this topic as it is very interesting.

St. Brigid's day
Mrs. Kathleen Loye taught our class how to make St. Brigid's crosses. We enjoyed making the crosses and Mrs. Loye was very kind and patient with us. Thank you for helping us to make our St. Brigid's crosses.
Art
We have been reading the novel 'Under the Hawthorn Tree'. We looked at different pictures of Hawthorn trees and drew our own landscapes. We painted them using water colour paints.
