Literacy

In literacy we learned that you can use different words for the word ‘said’. For example “There’s a mouse,” shouted mummy. We also had to read a story about the first lighthouse and answer questions about it.

When it was anti-bullying week, we had to write an acrostic poem about anti bullying. We watched a video about a boy who was being bullied and we wrote a letter to him telling him what he should do next. In literacy we had to write a story about some children going into an old house. We also had to learn how to use commas and how to use speech marks in sentences. In literacy we learned how to use direct speech.

World Around Us Geography

In geography we have been learning about the continents.

                                                                       Europe

Europe is my favourite continent. Europe is the second smallest continent by size but the third largest continent by population. 741.4 million people are thought to live in Europe.

                                                                         Africa

Africa is my second favourite continent. In Africa the largest ever desert, the Sahara Dessert, is in Egypt. There are around fifty-four different countries in Africa. The northern half of Africa is made up of mostly desert. The southern half is made up of mostly jungle, rainforest and plains. The equator passes through six African countries. Africa is the second largest continent by size.

                                                                          Asia

Asia is my third favourite continent. Mount Everest is in Asia.  The population of Asia is four billion. Did you know out of ever ten people in the world six of them would live in Asia? The Yangtze River in China, measuring 6300km long, is Asia’s longest river ever. Russia is in Asia. The only countries to have over one billion people in them are China and India, both are in Asia.

My favourite thing to learn about is Europe in geography.

World Around Us Geography

In Geography we learned about Antarctica, Oceania and North America. Oceania is my favourite continent.  It is the smallest continent with only 14 countries.  There are lots of islands in Oceania.  Australia is an island. Australia’s biggest city is Sydney.  Did you know that there are more than 250 languages spoken in Sydney?

World Around Us Science

This month P7 have been learning about Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and the Moon. Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are all gas giants and they are in the Solar System. Saturn has 82 moons, Uranus has 27 moons and Neptune has 14 moons. Our moon is made of rock.  My favourite planet is Neptune because I like its colour.  It is blue because of Methane in the atmosphere.

I also like when Mr. Quinn comes into our class and teaches us about Ireland. I have learned about the rivers, mountains, towns and cities all around Ireland.

Numeracy

In numeracy we have been learning about decimals and fractions. We also moved onto length and measuring in metres and cm. We done division and we have recently moved onto time. My favourite thing in numeracy is division.
