P7 October News
Literacy
This month in literacy we have been learning about interjections. Interjections are words that are put into a sentence to express some sudden emotion or feeling. We’ve also been leaning about how to use apostrophes to show ownership e.g. Tom’s dog Barker ran off with Tom’s slippers. Apostrophes can also shorten words e.g. cannot changes to can’t. We learnt about superlative and comparative adjectives. Comparative adjectives compare two things e.g. the strawberry is redder than the tomato. Superlative adjectives compare more than two things e.g. Primary Seven are the best class in the school.
My favourite topic is science. We have been learning about the Solar system. I didn’t know the order of the planets or any facts about them, but I do now. Miss Donnelly has made everything very easy to understand and now I love Science more than any other topic.

Word Around us Science
In October we have been learning about the Solar system. We learnt about Earth, Mars and Jupiter. The Earth has one moon and the Earth is 150 million kilometres away from the sun. Mars has two moons named Phobos and Deimos, the length of a year on Mars is 687 Earth days and the temperature on Mars is between -153 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius. Jupiter has 79 moons, it is the biggest planet in our Solar system and the temperature on Jupiter is around -110 degrees Celsius.
My favourite thing to do in class is learn about the continents of the world. I loved learning about Europe. I also enjoying playing camogie with Micheal Murphy and dancing to Just Dance in the classroom, it is lots of fun.

Our visit from Una Walsh
Una Walsh came into our class to teach us all about our home county. We walked to the Chairdineil O Fiaich centre to learn about the townlands in South Armagh. We had a great time and we learnt a lot of new things about our townlands. Una gave us a map of the townlands and asked us to find different townlands including Cullyhanna Big, Cullyhanna little, Annamar and lots more. Una told us stories about the different townlands.
Una came back to our class the next week and explained more about all the different places to visit in our local area. We had a really great time with Una and we hope that after Halloween she will take us on a trip away to see all the places we were learning about.
Out favourite subjects in Primary Seven to learn about are science and geography. We learn about the planets in science and we learn about the continents and countries in geography.

Numeracy
This month in numeracy we have been learning about fractions. We have been learning how to order and compare fractions, add and subtract fractions and how to convert improper fractions into mixed numbers.
We have also been learning about co-ordinates. We can use co-ordinates to translate and reflect shapes. We can use all four quadrants when identifying co-ordinates.
We learnt how to add, subtract, multiply and round decimals and we have been working hard to learn how to solve really tricky word problems that require three steps to find the final answer.
My favourite subject is Science because I find it very interesting.
